“Mengejar Ombak” Premiere
Blitz Megaplex, Jakarta
April 27, 2009

After award-winning success at the prestigious X-Dance Film Festival in Utah, USA for Best Emerging Filmmaker (for Dave Arnold and Tyrone Lebon) and Best Original Score, the long awaited arrival of \'Mengejar Ombak\' finally hit the big screen in Blitz Megaplex, Jakarta for it’s long awaited Indonesia premiere on April 27th, as a precursor to it’s general release in Jakarta and Bandung. And what an occasion it turned out to be!
The 300-seat cinema proved itself far too small to squeeze an audience comprising of cast members (Dede Suryana, his family and Surf Time’s Harry Radcliffe, Arya Subyakto), directors (Dave Arnold and Tyrone Lebon), ambassadors, sponsors and one or two celebs - including a Miss Universe-Holland among others. Even a few crammed carloads of Cimaja and Bandung surfers made it down to celebrate this auspicious occasion. Jakarta paparazzi were on overload as a reminder of how big a story Indonesian Surf Champion Dede Suryana’s has become – from growing up as a West Javan village boy to adapting to the life of a top pro surfer.
‘Mengejar Ombak’ was incredibly well received; laughter, cheers and gasps filled the auditorium for the full 47 minutes. And as a sign of the pleasure people were risen to, a 60 strong field of Monday party-goers rambunctiously made their way to the ever happening Becak Café. A few drinks and stories were passed as the group hollered and jived their way into the small hours of the morning.
